IEMT

A Trauma-Informed Approach to Emotional Well-Being

IEMT (Integral Eye Movement Therapy) is a unique, trauma-informed technique designed to facilitate rapid emotional healing and well-being. By targeting specific traumatic memories and guiding individuals through precise eye movements, IEMT helps to process these memories and significantly reduce the negative emotions attached to them.

How IEMT Works

IEMT works by guiding you through calibrated eye movements that process past negative memories in a way that allows your emotional response to those memories to lose its impact. This process helps you reframe your emotional state, enabling you to develop healthier, more balanced mental frameworks.

Andrew T. Austin, the creator of IEMT, explains that traumatic experiences—whether from a single overwhelming event or years of subtle emotional wounds—create emotional imprints. These imprints aren’t processed through rational thinking; instead, they are stored as sensations, images, and automatic emotional reactions. As Austin says:

“These imprints do not respond well to reasoning or analysis because they weren’t created through thinking in the first place. They are stored as sensations, images, and instant emotional reactions that can hijack your entire system before your thinking brain even knows what’s happening.”

This explains why you may find yourself repeatedly having the same emotional reactions, even though you understand them intellectually. Your thinking brain "gets it," but your emotional brain still operates from old, unprocessed imprints. While traditional therapies, such as counseling, work well for the thinking brain, IEMT reaches the emotional brain and helps resolve deep-seated emotional imprints that other therapies cannot.

What Makes IEMT Different?

Unlike other eye movement therapies, IEMT’s eye movements are not random. IEMT practitioners are specifically trained to determine the ‘optimal axis’ for eye movements. This precise method ensures that the changes are not only effective but also rapid, providing clients with quick relief from entrenched emotional issues.
